Manual wheelchairs are the most important and common rehabilitation aids, which are now frequently used by the elderly and disabled people. With the progress and development of society, the manual wheelchair has developed from a simple means of transportation for the disabled to an important means for the elderly and disabled to exercise, take care of themselves and participate in society. At present, manual wheelchairs have been included in the management of medical devices. According to the State Food and Drug Administration, there are currently more than 80 manufacturers registering and selling manual wheelchairs in China, and more than 200 medical device product registrations have been issued by the State Food and Drug Administration. Due to the increasing demand for manual wheelchairs in today's society, our company is also working hard to make manual wheelchairs better. The following are the issues that need attention in the production process of manual wheelchairs.

Here is the list of contents.

  • Strength of manual wheelchair

  • Skidding offset of manual wheelchairs

  • The braking system of a manual wheelchair

Strength of manual wheelchair

The strength requirement is the most important part of the standard requirements and the most tested part. It includes five parts: static strength, impact strength, vehicle impact, seat, impact, and fatigue strength. Static strength tests the load-bearing capacity of each part of the wheelchair when a corresponding static load is applied. Its content covers all situations in which the wheelchair may be subjected to external forces during use. By simulating the user's force during normal use, the static load applied in the test is calculated and multiplied by a safety factor to achieve the minimum strength requirement. It can be said that the static strength test ensures that every component that needs attention during the production of manual wheelchairs can meet the requirements for safe use.

The sliding offset of manual wheelchairs

Sliding offset is one of the most likely items to fail in the inspection of manual wheelchairs. The national supervision and sampling results also show that the gliding offset is also a frequent failure item. Usually, the reason for the manual wheelchair sliding offset to fail is that the assembly of the two front wheels is not tight, resulting in the wheelchair's left and right steering forces being unbalanced and running off. At present, manufacturers generally assemble the front wheels manually, and the tightness is controlled manually by the assembler, and the stability of the product assembly is not high. If the wheelchair deviates, there is a great hidden danger to the safety of use. However, according to the inspection rules of the national standard, the sliding offset is a secondary item, and failure of three secondary items is considered unqualified, and the sliding offset is not required as a factory inspection item for each machine, so it is easy to cause manufacturers to pay insufficient attention to the second item of sliding offset when producing wheelchairs. In future standard development and revision, the sliding offset can be taken as the main item, and a more stable assembly process can be adopted, while the sliding offset can be strictly controlled as a factory inspection item.

The braking system of a manual wheelchair

Manual wheelchair braking performance indicators are formed by the parking performance, braking distance, fatigue strength of the parking, brake, and other tests. Braking performance is also one of the items that often fail, mainly due to the unreasonable design of the parking brake and the lack of accurate installation position of the brake. Slope holding performance is also related to the friction coefficient between the tire and the test platform. In the slope holding performance test, wheel slip is generally affected by friction. The contact area is small and it is easy to fail the slope performance. Therefore, the company will pay attention to the above-mentioned problems during the R&D process, test the braking distance, and arrange personnel to remind users of the braking problem in the after-sales service, and inform them to brake urgently, especially in the process of fast driving. There may be serious dangers such as the user tipping forward or overturning the vehicle.
