Overseas, on February 22, a 14-year-old boy in Tennessee challenged state lawmakers to "Wheelchair Day." Lawmakers took up the challenge and held events related to wheelchair work.

Alex Johnson, who suffers from a rare bone disease, is confined to a wheelchair, CBS News reported Monday. The eighth-grader wanted to give lawmakers an idea of what it was like to perform everyday activities in a wheelchair, so he asked them to try to "spend a day in a wheelchair."

State Rep. Clark Boyd took up Johnson's challenge to organize the event in the Tennessee House of Representatives. According to a press release from the Tennessee House Republican Caucus, a total of 10 members of the House agreed to use wheelchairs in their offices for one day.

"I thought it was going to be hard, but I didn't know it would be frustrating to walk around in a wheelchair," Boyd said at a news conference. . "It was an eye-opening experience."

At the same time, Johnson created an organization called Team Alex to make the world more inclusive.

Johnson used Walker until first grade before changing her wheelchair life. A few years later, he launched the "Spend a Day in a Wheelchair" challenge to show students his life from his own perspective.

"I plan to spend the day in a wheelchair to raise awareness about the mobile device," Johnson said. "My challenge opens people's eyes to the difficulties wheelchair users face in their daily lives in real life, and I hope that through this challenge the world becomes more accessible."

The Mobil Foundation provided wheelchairs for delegates to the challenge. Photos from the day of the event show members of the convention sitting in borrowed wheelchairs and interacting with each other.

"Our entire community is very supportive of Alex and proud of his efforts to make people more aware of the lives of people with disabilities," Boyd said. "He is an amazing young man who has found an ability to turn his illness into an inspiration to others."
